SCO Announces New Pricing Program Which Enables Long-Term Support for Legacy SCO UNIX Products

LINDON, Utah, Jan 26, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- SCO announces updated pricing for older versions of the UNIX(R) OpenServer(TM) and UnixWare(TM) business lines

The SCO Group, Inc., (Pink Sheets: SCOXQ) a leading provider of UNIX(R) software technology and provider of mobility solutions, today announced price adjustments on legacy OpenServer(TM) and UnixWare(TM) operating systems in an effort to continue to focus on upgrading and maintaining the latest versions of SCO UNIX. The most current versions of SCO's UNIX, OpenServer 6 and UnixWare 7.1.4, will maintain their current pricing. These products provide customers with the latest hardware and software support including world-class reliability and stability.

Effective immediately, prices for SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 and earlier versions and SCO UnixWare 7.1.3 and earlier versions, will increase two-fold. Also, beginning March 6, 2009, SCO is implementing a 20% price increase for trade-in and upgrades to OpenServer 5.0.7. Upgrades to UnixWare 7.1.4 from version 7.1.1 will change to match upgrade pricing from UnixWare 7.1.2 and UnixWare 7.1.3. Upgrades from OpenServer 5.0.6 to OpenServer 6 will also be changed to match upgrade pricing from OpenServer 5.0.7. For details on the actual price adjustments, please contact your local SCO Sales representative, Distributor or Value-Add Reseller.

"Similar to other industry players, SCO is taking these necessary steps in order to reflect the increasing costs to maintain and support older, legacy versions of our operating systems," said Jeff Hunsaker, president and chief operating officer, SCO Operations. "SCO is committed to extend the life cycle of older releases as long as we can in order to protect the investment our partners and customers have made in older versions of our operating platforms," said Hunsaker.

SCO OpenServer and SCO UnixWare remain very competitive with the significant average lifetime use of the products and a licensing model that requires no annual maintenance fees. Customers are encouraged to upgrade to the latest versions of OpenServer and UnixWare to take advantage of hardware certifications as well as the increased performance capabilities.
