SCO Joins the Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP) Program to Integrate and Distribute Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 With New EdgeBuilder Toolkit

SCO Strengthens Its New Developer Program With Microsoft .NET Framework-Based Mobile Application Development Through EdgeBuilder Mobile Application Development Toolkit and Membership in the Microsoft VSIP Program

LAS VEGAS, Aug 07, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- The SCO Group, Inc. ("SCO") (Nasdaq: SCOX) today announced that it will ship the EdgeBuilder Mobile Application Development (MAD) Toolkit as a plug-in to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 providing greater ease for Microsoft .NET Framework-based developers to create and deploy rich mobile applications and services on SCO's EdgeClick Mobile Development platform. SCO has also joined the Microsoft VSIP program as a Premier Partner enhancing the value for SCO developers.

"We are pleased to work with Microsoft as the integration of the respective technologies in the MAD Toolkit gives developers a set of tools they need to quickly and easily build custom mobile applications for the EdgeClick mobile platform with little inherent learning curve," said Darl McBride, president and CEO, The SCO Group. "Combining Visual Studio 2005 and the MAD Toolkit will help developers to create feature rich mobile services that integrate with enterprise environments."

SCO announced the EdgeClick mobile platform in early 2006 to meet the growing needs of customers, developers and solution providers to create, deploy and host a wide array of mobile services. Along with the mobile platform, SCO created an infrastructure that allows partners, solution providers, developers and customers to market, provision and bill high-value, high-impact digital services. Accordingly, the company has also created the MAD Toolkit to further support developers in quickly and simply developing rich mobile applications. The MAD Toolkit includes a complete sample application in source code including a mobile client, service application, administration pages, and a connection agent. It also includes APIs to support and simplify the development of each of the components of an EdgeClick based solution.

SCO has also recently introduced the EdgeClick Developer Challenge to all developers and solution providers to gain access to the MAD Toolkit and participate in creating rich mobile applications and services. The grand prize winner of the Developer Challenge receives a new BMW M5 or $100,000 in cash for the best mobile application. There will also be ten additional cash prizes for the runners up.

Along with shipping the MAD Toolkit as a plug-in for Visual Studio 2005, SCO has joined the Microsoft VSIP program as a Premier Partner, allowing it to redistribute Visual Studio 2005 and/or the Visual Studio Premier Partner Edition IDE with their integrated products.

"Microsoft is pleased to have SCO join the VSIP program," said Joe Marini, group product manager of the .NET Developer Product Marketing Group at Microsoft Corp. "The integration of the SCO MAD Toolkit with Visual Studio 2005 will help drive effective and efficient business mobilization for our mutual customers."
